This calculator estimates how far your antenna’s impedance is from the desired system impedance (typically 50 Ω), helping you understand what your tuner is compensating for.
Given your antenna’s resistance \( R \) and reactance \( X \), and your system impedance \( Z_0 \), we compute:
The formula for reflection coefficient is: \[ \Gamma = \frac{\sqrt{(R - Z_0)^2 + X^2}}{R + Z_0} \] Then: \[ \text{VSWR} = \frac{1 + \Gamma}{1 - \Gamma} \]
A tuner uses reactive components (capacitors and inductors) to "cancel out" \( X \) and bring the resistive component closer to 50 Ω. This calculator helps identify the degree of mismatch — the larger the values, the more your tuner has to work.
